This paper investigates the possibility of resolving the conflict over the political status of Papua vis-à-vis Indonesia by means of dialogue. By analyzing the background of the conflict, relevant domestic and international actors and the Aceh peace process, the author concludes that a settlement might be reached. However, the paper also identifies numerous obstacles to a peace process and suggests that only if radical secessionists are included in the dialogue and international assistance is secured, the peace process will have a chance.
