This paper looks at migration, illegal migration, ethnic politics and internal displacement in Northeast India during the postcolonial era. The author shows how the reorganization of states gave rise to border disputes that have led to violence and large-scale internal displacement. The author also addresses the states' inaptitude in handling ethnic aspiration and in finding responses to internal displacement.
