This paper examines the origins of the US-India nuclear agreement and analyzes the sustainability of the transformation in bilateral relations. The author argues that a conjunction of material, political and conceptual changes operating at different levels is responsible for a renewed strategic alignment and the bilateral civilian nuclear cooperation with India. The paper further reviews the US-India relations during and after the Cold War.
