This publication challenges the claim that a new "Taiwanese nationalism," embodying a rising enthusiasm for an independent Taiwan and increasing hostility toward a possible political rapprochement with China, is on the rise. By analyzing a wide range of data, the author acknowledges the increasing popularity of Taiwanese nationalism, but stresses that this nationalism co-exists with neutral or even positive attitudes toward China. The publication goes even further in suggesting that Taiwan’s public will demand an ease in relations between the two sides.
