This paper examines efficient ways of informing the public about the risks and realities of nuclear terrorism. The author argues that achieving adequate preparedness for a terrorist attack against the US involving a nuclear or radiological weapon is simultaneously a technical problem, a public policy challenge and a public education mission. Further topics include the dimensions of terrorist threats, health risks associated with nuclear and radiological attacks and emergency response to a nuclear or radiological terrorist attack.
