This paper argues that almost three years after its annexation, Crimea is politically more like an island than a peninsula. The text mainly considers 1) the area’s current status and quality of life; 2) the West’s policies towards Russia’s annexation and the continued role of the “Ukrainian diversion”; 3) Moscow’s refusal to revise the current status quo and Kyiv's lack of determination to restore its jurisdiction over Crimea; and 4) the resulting suffering of Crimea’s Tatars.
