This monograph contributes to the process of conceptualizing a post-Castro Cuban armed forces (FAR). It analyzes US policy toward Cuba, the history and current state of the FAR as well as threats against Cuba and the Caribbean. The author proposes a structure for a post-transition force based on the capabilities that a Cuban force would require. The monograph concludes that a professional, politically neutral and democratically controlled Cuban military can be achieved if the international community constructively engages the FAR.
