This study focuses on the ongoing economic crisis in Russia. It specifically analyzes 1) the crisis’ causes, progress and existing dynamics; 2) the “anti-crisis show” that’s been put on by the Kremlin; and 3) the political risks that are interwoven with Russia’s economic woes. As the text’s author sees it, the ultimate cause of the crisis is the dysfunctional economic and political model Russia’s rulers have adopted, which means it’s not in their kleptocratic interests to overhaul the country’s political system anytime soon. As a result, the Russian people should expect long-term economic stagnation to remain a basic fact of their lives.
