The author of this text isn’t happy. She believes Western analysts have depicted North Korea’s leadership cadre too narrowly. Put another way, the widespread preoccupation with Kim Jong Un as the country’s supreme leader is misplaced and dangerous. It either obscures or prevents a more three-dimensional look at the real power dynamics of the Hermit Kingdom, which involves a savage intra-elite political competition among key players.
