This paper analyzes Ukraine's 2004 presidential election and examines its implications for national development and democratization. The papers included discuss the importance of good governance for the democratic transition, the creation of a democratic consensus and the need for constitutional reform to stabilize Ukraine's political system. Furthermore, the chapters review both major presidential candidates' campaigns and backgrounds and consider the international and domestic framework of Ukraine's presidential election.
