This paper discusses US strategic challenges and policy options in the Gulf region. The contributors pay particular attention to the role of Israel in regional security matters and detail attitudes and perceptions of the Arab states towards Israel. The paper explains that while almost all Gulf states view the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as a major destabilizing force in the region, from both a political and ideological standpoint, their security concerns nevertheless remain more local.
