This paper discusses the international legal framework for Iraq at the end of the occupation. It gives a brief overview of the occupation period and then describes the legal sources for the new arrangements. These include transitional political structures and a multinational military force. The paper also looks at ways in which legal responsibility might arise for the UK in respect of abuse of detainees in Iraq.
