The paper discusses the developing energy policies in the UK and in Europe. The authors explain how such policies are driven by the need to secure energy supplies and deliver clean, affordable energy to combat climate change. The paper also considers the risks of dwindling reserves of oil, gas and coal which, environmental considerations notwithstanding, will continue to be used in the future. It introduces EU and UK energy policies, assesses the existing oil and gas reserves and comments on related security concerns. Subsequently, the paper provides a regional overview of available resources and related issues.
