This monthly briefing examines the six years that followed the suicide attacks of 11 September 2001. The paper looks at the war aims for the security situation in Afghanistan, Iraq and Iran and compares them to the realities. According to the author, there is now every sign that the war will extend at least into a second decade and perhaps beyond. He therefore suggests alternatives to policymakers.
