This paper examines defense statistics in the UK for the fiscal year 2000. Its aim is to bring together the more commonly used statistics relating to UK defense expenditure and manpower and to explain the problems involved in using such statistics, particularly when making international comparisons. The paper provides detailed information on UK defense expenditures, defense personnel, the formation of the armed forces and armed forces salaries.
