This paper discusses the future of Kosovo once a permanent settlement such as the Ahtisaari Proposal has been reached with a focus on the EU's role in this context. The paper reviews the curse of the Kosovo status negotiations, examines the roles of the EU and the international community and sheds light on EU crisis management structures. Subsequently, the paper outlines local EU involvement in Kosovo and reviews the security setting. The paper argues that it is of utmost importance for the EU to make Kosovo "fit for Europe."
