This paper compares the energy policy and security of both the US and the EU and offers a closer look on future trends. The paper identifies challenges to both countries' energy security, presents data on their energy supply and comments on energy security today. Subsequently, the paper examines the possible energy future, discusses the US' and the EU's strategies in this field and reviews options for a trans-Atlantic energy partnership. The paper argues that such a partnership should not aim for a common energy policy but for mutual accommodation and harmonization.
