This paper provides background information on the components of the UK Transport Bill which directly deal with local transport plans and buses. The author explains that the bill imposes a duty on local transport authorities to prepare and publish a local plan setting out their policies in their area. The paper further highlights how the bill introduces measures to improve bus services including statutory backing for quality partnerships and improved ticketing and information.
