This paper discusses the public health dangers associated with asbestos fibers. The author describes the historic rise in the use of asbestos, its adverse health effects, compensation arrangements for those adversely affected and legislation to control exposure. The paper states that although legislation has been introduced to safeguard the health of workers, many were exposed beforehand.
