This paper discusses the debate on the freedom of information in the UK. The author examines the Code of Practice on Access to Government Information and looks at the proposals in the white paper "Your Right to Know," published in December 1997 and the subsequent report from the Public Administration Select Committee. The paper generally compares the provisions of the code with the white paper proposals.
