This paper examines the UK government’s proposals for updated voting systems for the European Parliament, the Scottish Parliament, the Welsh National Assembly, the Northern Ireland Assembly and the Greater London Authority. The paper discusses common themes related to such elections and also summarizes the proposals of the Jenkins Commission on an updated voting system for the House of Commons. Finally, the possibility of a new voting system for local governments is briefly addressed.
