This paper looks at the condition of democracy in the Russian Federation seven years after the collapse of the Soviet Union. The author examines the prospects for an orderly political response to the difficult economic circumstances in the country during the financial crisis from 1998, surveys the general political and economic stability in Russia and analyzes the prospects for the future.
