This paper examines the constitutional and political implications for the UK in the event of a decision to participate in the planned Economic Monetary Union (EMU) of the EU. The author provides historical background information on the EMU and examines the opinions of other EU member states on the Monetary Union. The paper looks at the arguments for and against the EMU and analyzes the issue of economic convergence.
