This briefing paper assesses the implications of the Russian presidential election cycle of December 2007 to March 2008 for Israel and the US. The author examines US-Russian relations, the roots of Russian foreign policy and vital security issues such as missile defense and the discussion about the post-Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty regime. The paper concludes that Jerusalem’s relationship with Moscow may deteriorate if Russia continues to treat Israel as an American satellite state.
