This paper examines the effects of the North Korean nuclear test on US interests. The author argues that the test has not substantially changed the US' role in Northeast Asia but warns that the situation is not static and urges relevant authorities to seize the moment to press the advantages that have been created for the US. He warns that the US will not only have squandered an opportunity presented by the North Korean test to consolidate its relations with its allies and with China, but might ironically find itself relatively isolated and cast in the role of spoiler.
