This publication consists of a talk delivered at The Security Implications of Increased Global Reliance on Nuclear Power Conference at Stanford University. The speaker addresses the problems of energy transitions – from wood to coal and from coal to oil as well as natural gas and nuclear power. He argues that energy transitions transform societies and concludes that the US needs every energy source it can find or devise.
