This book addresses Islam and Islamism in Europe, commenting on Muslim immigration, the Europeanization of Islam and the challenge of fundamentalism. The book provides information on Islamist ideologies and movements from political Islam to terrorist radicalization and discusses the status and discrimination of Muslim communities, including economic activity, access to the media and the headscarf question. Subsequently, the book considers Islamic institutionalization, political mobilization and official recognition. The book argues that the time has come for a new European political and social discourse in relation to its Muslim communities.
