This paper examines the role of organizations in recruiting minors for non-state armed organizations. The author argues that organizations are a reference point in the regions in which they have influence, develop role models that relate directly to the imagination of the dwellers, and create structures that become real life alternatives. The paper first sketches the basics of the Colombian conflict and briefly discusses the role of gender and age in it. The second part of the paper attempts to answer why groups recruit children.
