This report draws on released information from captured al-Qaida documents maintained in the US Department of Defense Harmony database. The report is a preliminary analysis of records containing background information on foreign fighters entering Iraq via Syria during 2007. It states that the examined Sinjar records provide evidence that al-Qaida’s Iraq affiliates rely on criminal smugglers as part of their logistics to train in Syria.
