This paper provides a detailed examination of the Bush administration’s key counterterrorism policies. The author explains how the administration has shown a disturbing pattern of disrespect for the law and that key policies have been generally rationalized on a legal theory of wartime necessity. The paper states that Bush's approach of simplistically "cutting legal corners" for the sake of protecting the US has undermined the fight against the al-Qaida terrorist network and compromised several civil liberties.
