This paper argues that the structure of international power following the end of the Cold War is transitional. Concerning Asia, the author predicts that neither hegemony nor multipolarity will be the next order. He assesses the prospects of the emerging regional order in Asia using four options: bipolarity, the East Asian community, US-China condominium and shared leadership. The paper concludes by discussing how Southeast Asian countries should prepare for the coming strategic environment.
