This paper discusses the political questions associated with the process of EU enlargement. The author gives three clusters of reasons why enlargement is being pushed forward by the EU and details economics, security and identity as the most important factors. The paper examines how the EU might go about enlargement by considering the possible implications and obstacles to overcome. The author concludes with a series of different enlargement scenarios.
