This paper sheds light on the changing thinking on issues related to security, focusing on the concept of human security. It addresses the widening concept of security, introduces approaches and looks at the implications related to the end of the Cold War and globalization. The author argues that the assumption that states could substantially influence the factors affecting the lives of their population is in many places no longer tenable.
