This paper examines the different possible trade-offs in the process of European energy policy formulation. The author explains that existing policies for the internal EU market and competition regulations must provide an immediately accessible framework for an energy market on a European scale and should be implemented in full. The paper states that the energy policy in the EU should be opposed to the trends toward re-nationalization or protectionism.
