This monograph addresses state and development of Egypt, focusing on the failures of governance, political development, continued strength of Islamism and counterterrorism policy. The author argues that the Egyptian government's effort to retain tight control over the political landscape is impeding the democratization process. She explains the nature of the problems inherent in the political and economic development and how these relate to the various emerging militant Islamist movements.
