This paper illustrates how Lukoil became the most important Russian oil company and also one of the largest in the world. The author describes Lukoil's establishment during the last days of the USSR, identifies its main assets and shareholders and looks at its strategy. Furthermore, it examines the company's involvement abroad and looks at its relations with the government.
