This working paper addresses the fundamental institutional and political dimensions of Russia's investment climate and economic development. The paper outlines the structure and development of Russia's judiciary, banking system, taxation and corporate law, reviews the real-estate sector and looks at the economic and institutional framework of foreign direct investment (FDI). Subsequently, it elaborates on the country's experiences with privatization, state interventions in the economy and the sociopolitical situation.
