This paper discusses the US lessons learned from Operation Desert Strom during the First Gulf War. The author explains that the uncertainties of downsizing and reorganizing the armed forces must coincide with the need to accommodate updated technologies to help cope with emerging threats. The paper states that the US Army must be careful not to engage in the kind of introspection and force adaptation that may foster an institutionalized isolation from the nation.
