This paper discusses the national development of the Central Asian states Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan following the collapse of the Soviet Union. The author describes how they have become the object of international rivalries and the sources of revised political force, as the countries seek to enlarge their independence in world politics. The paper traces the importance of Central Asian geopolitics by focusing on the struggle around energy and security issues in the region.
