This paper examines the security situation in the Lake State Region of Sudan. Based on a household survey carried out in the area, the authors examine the distribution of small arms among the locals and describe public opinion about security and small weapons. The paper concludes that contrary to expectations, insecurity has actually increased in the region, emphasizing the importance of renewed attention to the south.
