This paper addresses the US military presence in Asia, arguing that a forward-stationed presence in the region is vital to US interests and maintaining peace and stability. It looks at the US' experience with forward deployments in Europe, applies this experience to Asia and discusses the regional security situation. Subsequently, the paper discusses the strategic importance of South Korea, reflects upon the implications of a possible Korean reconciliation and outlines what a future US presence might look like.
