This paper focuses on the proliferation of chemical, biological and nuclear weapons in the Middle East. The author argues that the Arab-Israeli conflict and the lack of progress in the peace process have been strong incentives for the nations in the region to acquire weapons of mass destruction (WMD). The paper outlines how the Iran-Iraq rivalry has become another security problem impacting the Gulf region.
