This report examines the trend of inter-organizational security cooperation in international peace operations. It explores bilateral collaboration among the UN, NATO, the EU and the African Union (AU) and identifies evolutionary phases and underlying motives for cooperation. The author finds that inter-organization security partnerships are rarely reversed and that the motives for cooperation can be of both materialist and idealist nature. She also looks at lessons learned from such cooperation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Balkans, Sudan, Afghanistan and Burundi.
