This paper analyzes the development of a middle class phenomenon in Kazakh society from the end of the USSR to the present day. It discusses the composition of the Kazakh middle class and provides an overview of the country's development. Specifically, the author draws attention to the energy exports and considers future prospects of the country's economic development. He argues that significant challenges remain if the position of Kazakhstan's middle class is to be consolidated.
