Over the past 20 years remittances from labor migrants in Russia have been one of the main sources of income in Central Asia. Unfortunately, Russia’s economic woes are drying up remittance streams, which could lead to more migrants making their way towards EU countries. That Moscow might use this phenomenon as another bargaining chip when negotiating with Brussels goes without saying.
