This report reviews Israel’s strategic environment in 2019-20. That is, it traces the social and political changes that occurred in the Middle East, how the states in the region responded to them, and how their responses shifted the area's relations and even balance of power. At the core of this assessment lie a series of substantive national security challenges for Israel, including those involving 1) Iran’s engagement in Syria and other arenas; 2) Hezbollah’s precision missile project in Lebanon; 3) Israel’s policy towards Hamas and the Palestinian Authority in Palestine, and more.
