This paper compares the US situation in Afghanistan and Iraq to the UK's Suez adventure in 1956. It provides a brief overview of the Suez crisis and outlines the similarities and differences between the US situation in 2008 and Britain's circumstances at the outset of the Suez crisis. The author analyzes the expected results of the US' response to the attacks of 11 September 2001 and concludes that US power may have overreached itself.
