In April 2017 Central Asian citizens perpetrated multiple terrorist attacks. This commentary argues that this is not a coincidence, given that Islamic terrorism from this region is both spreading and increasing. The spread is attributable to demographic pressures, the authoritarian tendencies of Central Asian States, and the overt persecution of those with fundamentalist beliefs.
