This report examines the economic impact of violence and conflict on the global economy. The report’s three sections focus on 1) the conceptual background of the economic costs of violence and value of peace; 2) the specific data trends and patterns observed at the global, regional and national levels; and 3) the costs of services that aim to contain or prevent violence (in contrast to the costs that arise as a consequence of violence). Finally, the report’s authors speculate on what is the optimal amount of “containment spending” policymakers should perform in order to implement effective anti-violence strategies.
