As this analysis confirms, trying to maintain the above five camps’ neutrality in the Syrian Civil War has been very difficult, as has sustaining basic services for the close to two million unprotected, marginalized and victimized people who remain trapped within them. In order to contextualize the Palestinians’ plight, the text’s authors specifically trace 1) the historical role they have played in Syria; 2) their shifting positions on the violence now wrecking the country; and 3) the dire situation that currently exists in the refugee camps.
